Welcome to Park Beach SLSC - 1959 to 1975 

Our Brief History

Records show that the late Rex Wright developed the idea of the surf club. Rex, Marc Ashton, Arthur Griffiths and some local holiday home owners proposed the club to the Dodges Ferry Progress Association in February of 1959. The Tasmanian State Centre of SLSA granted affiliation in May that year, and Park Beach S.L.S.C. was born.

The Hobart Carlton surf club loaned us the equipment we needed to carry out our obligated patrol duties. It was not long before we became self sufficient.

In 1975, Hobart Carlton surf club membership was waning so the two clubs merged. Members moved all gear and equipment to the new club, Carlton Park. The inaugural president was the late Eoin S Mc Donald, a former office bearer and Club Captain of Park Beach.

This Website is in the original club colours: flamingo, black, and white.

Reunions

In 2000, 2010, and 2015 former members and friends of Park Beach SLSC gathered in Hobart to celebrate the the 40th, 50th, and 55th anniversaries of our formation.

Butch and Kommo have organized our 66th year reunion on 13th and 14th of December.

The proposed agenda is:

Sat 13 - 10:30

• Meet at or near our old Surf Club site for a cuppa and a chat. 
• Pause for a minute’s silence on the beach to remember our past members who have gone to that great surf club in the sky. 
• A swim for those who are able – Hopefully Carlton Park SLSC will provide a rubber duckie and crew for safety. 
• Meet for Lunch – Dodges Ferry Tavern has a more extensive menu but the Lewisham is our old watering hole.

Sunday 14th December 12.30 pm. 

• Meet at the Carlton Park SLSC club house for a BBQ $12, a look over the club house, and tell some more yarns. 

• Mid-afternoon or there abouts we bid our fond fair- wells.
